- Make Use of Pre-Header
- Ask customer preferences/feedback
- Try A/B testing

1. Get Personal
If you have someone\’s email and name then use Name in the emails and make it more appealing so that your customers can feel it.
For Example, instead of Using like Dear Customer, Dear Valued Customer, or Dear Friend. Use Like Dear Kim, Dear Amit, or Dear John.
When customers know you know them, they pay more attention.
2. Connect the subject line to the first line
An Email Subject line should be interesting and much appealing so that your customer can not stop them from clicking the email.
The Email subject line must be brief about the Email Content.
Don\’t be too cryptic (like “You won’t believe this”) or too general (like “December Newsletter”)
- Keep them short and sweet
- Use Your brand for an Advantage
- Test, test, and test again
- Try A/B Testing
3. Send it at the correct time/time it right
While sending the emails to your customers choosing the right time is also very important.
If you knock at your customer\’s door at 3:00 AM in the morning then it is of no use.
- According to Dan Zarella\’s book The Science of Marketing, Open rates are highest early in the morning. 6:00 a.m. is the best time of day to send emails
- According to the same case study, People also respond well to emails that arrive after they get off work ― between 7 and 10 p.m
- Avoid the middle of the work day and weekends.
- Avoid Mondays as customers are stressed
4. Keep it short and sweet
Short and medium-length subject lines have higher open rates than long ones, which ultimately affects conversion rates (the percentage of people who take action based on your email)
5. Be clear and conversational
If you send an email whose content is Hazy, Fuzzy, or hard to read. nobody will take the time to figure it out.
So while putting the content make it personal and conversational. This is a great strength to increase the open rate of your email.
6. Make Use of Pre-Header
Using a Pre-Header in the Email with the Email Subject Line is a great strength to increase the Open Rate and Click Rate for the Email.
The Pre-Header for the emails can be like – Your 40% Off Coupon code is here
7. Ask customer preferences/feedback
Asking questions/feedback from your customers is also one way to show your customers that you care about them and their opinion does matter to them.
Asking \”What do you think?\” or \”Can you give us your opinion?\”.
8. Try A/B Testing
At its core, A/B Testing takes two versions of your email, and tests to see which one works better. Say you want to test subject lines to see which one is more effective.
You can do the A/B testing at various places.
- From Name
- Subject Line
- Pre Header
- Send Time
- Content Area
9. Have a Clear Call to Action
When you are designing the emails for your customers, let your customer know what exactly you want them to do.
Some examples for CTA are
- If you are running an E-Commerce web then start with. Buy, Shop or Order.
- If you are promoting newsletter or E-Books then Start with Download Now
10. Measure, tweak, repeat
Once you start to A/B test and measure, be ready to keep testing and tweaking in the months ahead.
